A breakdown video was one of the things I wanted to include in my show branding and interpretation. I thought it would be an interesting way to display how the short was made in a way that both people familiar with VFX and those who aren’t would enjoy watching.
The first thing I did was look at different breakdown videos to see how they were generally laid out, including ones from previous years. BFX had a lot of great breakdowns, so I consulted them.
I really liked this breakdown- albeit I am biased for this short. I liked the breakdowns for the lighting and the models- the timing and beat of the short felt great too.
I really liked the prop turntables in this short and the layout of these. The were visually pleasing for the display here.
I started looking at what I needed to include in my scene. Michael suggested I look at interesting way for a scene build- having the different props come in. I decided to have them fall in, landing with a bounce, inspired by my animation.
Below is the beginning of the breakdown video. I really liked how the scene build ups were looking- they had a nice character to them. The only comments I really had was the pause at the end of each of the animation clips. The next thing to do is fix these and then add the music in.
